Riverside Health System has been providing Virginia residents with exceptional health care since its first facility opened nearly a century ago. Today, the pioneering healthcare system serves communities in six cities along the Virginia Peninsula. Since 2004, Riverside has been recognized as having some of the most technologically advanced facilities in the country.

In 2009, the Riverside Health System received a Certificate of Public Need to begin construction on a new facility in Williamsburg, Virginia. The community’s endorsement of the hospital’s construction was unparalleled, as over 2,000 written letters from local residents proclaimed the strong public need for such a facility.

Both modern and decorative, composite panels play an important role in new and retrofit healthcare applications. Over 30,000 square feet of ALPOLIC’s aluminum composite material is featured throughout the hospital’s design. Used on the walls, canopies and as an accent material, the muted tone of the panels offers a subtle complement to the building’s brick façade.

Healthcare facilities are constructed with the patient well being as the primary goal. New healthcare construction often features brick as a means of conveying comfort, even before entering the facility. The contrasting use of metal, in this case aluminum composite, showcases other vital attributes of a state-of-the-art healthcare facility. The use of metal in architecture communicates something new, modern, innovative and futuristic.
