We Are ALPOLIC: Meet Michael Bowie
A new year kicks off an exciting new chapter for Michael Bowie, who was promoted to manager of technical services at ALPOLIC. Joining the team in 2011, he rose from coil line production supervisor to quality assurance analyst to joining the technical support team in 2019, where he trained with industry veteran Jim Moses.
Now retired, Jim speaks glowingly about his successor. “There’s no one in the company that knows the finish better than Mike,” he attests. The technical services manager position had once been chaired by chemist Bill Yannetti before it was held by Jim, a licensed professional engineer (PE). Jim feels that with Mike’s production background, he will bring something new to the position. “He’s been with the company a long time. With his hands on product and an incredible attention to detail from his time in QA, and that point of view is an advantage we haven’t had before.”
Mike views his time at ALPOLIC as one filled with opportunity. “I am fortunate to have had awesome mentors throughout my time here,” he explains. From his managers and co-workers, he views his daily interactions with the ALPOLIC team as his favorite part of the job. “When you interact with people, you learn about leadership, how to drive things forward. If I can glean a nugget of wisdom from somebody, it adds to my growth and enables me to contribute more to the company’s success.”
Born in Jena, Alabama, Mike is a self-professed country boy who has always valued education. Proud of his HBCU heritage, he graduated from Alabama State University with a degree in Biology. Prior to joining ALPOLIC Mike held a variety of roles at Hy-Mark Cylinders, 84 Lumber, Interstate Brands Corp. and Gateway Computers. He shares his technical expertise and product knowledge in his role, providing support to fabricators, architects, fire consultants, and end users of ALPOLIC MCM. “It’s about ensuring ALPOLIC MCM meets the requirements of the model building code and industry specific product standards,” details Mike.
As technical services manager, Mike is the point of connection between the production floor, the sales team, the customer, and even industry groups like NFPA, FIGA, NCCA, RAiNA, and ASTM. Representing ALPOLIC’s commitment to safety and quality, he helps shape the standards, accepting nothing less than strict code compliance as evidenced by his role as one of ALPOLIC’s Lead ISO Internal Auditors. Extremely detail oriented, Mike is who one turns to in order to connect the dots and solve problems.
Though self-assured and talkative, Mike admits to being a bit of an introvert at heart. Outside of work, he describes his life as pretty quiet. Though he enjoys watching University of Alabama Crimson Tide football, serving his community through his local church, and reading science fiction. Mike treasures his time with his family. In August, he welcomed his first grandchild and frequently travels to Georgia where his daughter and her husband are stationed to see them. He also enjoys camping with his son and having deeply introspective yet comical conversations with his wife.
